When you book a rental vehicle from Avis the price shown includes third party civil liability insurance and partial excess elimination in the event of an accident or theft of the vehicle.When you rent a vehicle, it is essential that you have the right cover to comply with legislation and to meet your own risk requirements. Additional cover can be easily arranged over the counter when you come to collect your hire car.
Third-party civil liability insurance
Your rental vehicle is insured for civil liability in accordance with legal requirements.- If you are involved in an accident with a third party for which you are to blame, you will have to pay an excess (civil liability) of €175 excluding VAT per accident.
- If you are under 23 years of age or have had your driving licence for less than one year, the excess rises to €250 excluding VAT.
Partial excess reduction in the event of an accident (CDW: Collision Damage Waiver/SCDW: Super Collision Damage Waiver)
If you opt for CDW or SCDW, your liability for any damage caused to your rental vehicle will be limited as indicated in your rental agreement.CDW and the SCDW do not apply for damage to the vehicle:
- resulting from non-compliance with the obligations stated in the rental agreement
- which is not explicitly reported, whether or not the damage is a result of a road accident or not.
- resulting from a serious or intentional failure on the part of the lessee or the person to whom they answer; from a war, riot or act of terrorism (including collective acts of violence).
- Any damage to the vehicle's interior that is not the result of a traffic accident will not be covered by any kind of liability reduction. The same is the case when the lessee has shown evident negligence when declaring the accident.
If you have not chosen CDW or SCDW, you accept full liability for any damage to your rental vehicle. You will therefore be required to pay the cost of repairs or the full cost of the vehicle in the event of a write-off.
For van rentals, any damage to the vehicle located above the windscreen is excluded from CDW and Super CDW cover.
The lessee is liable for any damage to one or several parts of the vehicle's underbody, even following partial reduction of the excess.
Partial reduction of the excess if the vehicle is stolen (TPC: Theft protection/STP: Super Theft protection)
By opting for the TP or STP cover, your liability for the theft of the vehicle and/or its parts will be reduced as indicated in your rental agreement.If the vehicle disappears as a result of your negligence, with your involvement or that of your employee, managers, administrators or a member of your family, you will automatically lose the benefit of the cover.
In the event of disappearance and/or vandalism, you must immediately inform the local police and provide the lessor with a copy of your statement.
If the vehicle is stolen, you must also immediately return the keys and vehicle documents to the lessor.
If you have not chosen TP or STP cover, you therefore accept full liability for the disappearance of the vehicle and/or its parts. You will therefore be required to pay the entire cost of the vehicle and/or the costs of recovering the non-returned vehicle.
