If something characterizes Donosti, it is the majesty of its buildings, a reflection of the time in which the European aristocracy spent summers int he Bay of Biscay. The allure of la Concha beach, its cuisine and its incredible cultural offer are hard to resist. The incomparable beach of La Concha, the pearl of the Bay of Biscay, is found in the embrace of the Urgull and Igeldo mountains, from where you will have the best panoramic views of the city. On the skirt of Igeldo, on the beach of Ondarreta, is the sculpture of Chillida, the Peine de los Vientos. If you walk along the promenade towards the center, you will see the Miramar Palace, next to the El Antiguo district, and in the distance, on the sea, the island of Santa Clara.
Between the sacred monuments of the old helmet they emphasize the basilica Santa Maria of the Choir, patron saint of the city, and an old convent turned into museum. If you wander a bit, you will soon find the porticoed square of the Constitution. Its painted balconies of albero are numbered as it was formerly a bullring. Today it is the meeting point at parties like Santo Tomas' day, on December 21, when it is mandatory to try the talos, corn cakes stuffed with cheese or chistorra. There is nothing better than going from pintxos from bar to bar. As an alternative you can enjoy the signature cuisine of one of the many chefs with Michelin stars.

San Sebastian dresses to impress to host the International Film Festival, one of the most important in Europe. The Jazz Festival and the Musical Fortnight are equally essential events; as are the traditional tamborrada on January 20th or the Semana Grande in August. In September, you should not miss the trawler regattas or the Euskal Jaiak parties with local sports competitions such as Basque pelota, aizkolaritza (cutting of trunks) or the lifting of stones.A visit would not be complete without a meal in a local cider house. In these wineries you can not only pour the cider directly from the barrel, but taste the traditional menu composed, among other dishes, of cod omelette, steak and cheese with quince.
In a rental car you can take fantastic routes in the surroundings landscape. Just half an hour from San Sebastian, in the direction of France, you will find Hondarribia (Fuenterrabía), whose medieval old town is spectacular. One step away is the French city of San Juan la Luz, less than half an hour from the walled town of Bayonne and the well-known Biarritz.
