INSURANCE AND LIABILITY
In the event of an accident with a third party, you could be held liable. If you do not have insurance, you run the risk of not being covered for the damage caused.
THE INSURANCE PROVIDED BY AVIS WHEN YOU RENT A CAR DOES NOT COVER THE USE OF THE ELECTRIC SCOOTERS PROVIDED BY AVIS. YOUR INSURANCE POLICIES MAY NOT COVER YOU IN THE EVENT OF AN INCIDENT INVOLVING THE RENTED ELECTRIC SCOOTERS AND THE PROPERTY DAMAGE CAUSED. FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT YOUR PERSONAL INSURER.
It is recommended that users take out or verify their "family insurance" to see if they are covered in case of accidents.
What are my responsibilities when renting an electric scooter from AVIS?
When renting an electric scooter as part of a car rental with AVIS, the customer named in the car rental agreement is solely responsible for the proper use of the electric scooter rented as an additional product. By renting the electric scooters, you certify that you are fully aware of the legislation in force on the use and circulation of electric scooters, and in particular you undertake not to allow a person under the age of 16 years old to use the rented electric scooters, and not to be more than one person riding on an electric scooter.
You agree that any traffic violations, tickets, fines or seizure fees are at your own risk and expense, including improper or unauthorized parking of your scooter. In this regard, at the end of the rental period of the electric scooter, it is your responsibility to return it to AVIS at the place designated by AVIS, and not on the public area. It is also your responsibility to obtain and secure the electric scooter with the proper equipment to prevent theft of the electric scooter.
By renting the electric scooter provided by AVIS, you agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless AVIS, from any and all third-party claims arising out of or relating to the use of the electric scooters by you or any person to whom you untrusted the electric scooter, including claims based on gross negligence or willful misconduct by you or any person to whom you untrusted the electric scooter.
SECURITY AND REGULATION
Belgian regulations require riders of electric scooters to be 16 years old. Riding with a passenger on an electric scooter is strictly forbidden and represents a significant danger. It is forbidden to ride on sidewalks.
Make sure to respect parking instructions and to check that the electric scooter does not obstruct the passage.
SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
Some Avis’ agencies in Belgium offer, subject to availability, the rental of electric scooters as an additional product to the rental of your AVIS vehicle.
Electric scooter rental is limited to a maximum of three (3) electric scooters per rental agreement. Electric scooters must always be returned to the same rental location where they were originally picked up. Scooter rental is charged for a minimum of one (1) day.
Do I have to pay a deposit for the electric scooter rental?
The addition of the electric scooter rental to your car rental contract is included in the calculation of the amount for the bank pre-authorization due at the start of your rental.
Is it mandatory to wear a helmet?
Wearing a helmet is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. By renting an electric scooter from AVIS, you acknowledge that AVIS has provided you and all users with a helmet and has alerted you to the importance of following the safety guidelines for the safe use of electric scooters. In the event that you refuse to be provided with a helmet, the customer certifies that he/she takes full responsibility for this choice.
By renting an electric scooter, you agree that this product and the equipment attached to it (helmet, recharging equipment, etc.) remain the exclusive property of AVIS at all times.
I had an accident with the rented electric scooter, what happens?
After each return of an electric scooter to AVIS, it is your responsibility to report any incident that occurred during the rental period, or to alert AVIS to any malfunction that may have been noticed during use.
Any accident, collision, property damage, theft or loss of the rented electric scooter must be reported to AVIS as soon as possible.
What happens if when I return the electric scooter it is damaged?
You agree to return the electric scooters, as well as all the equipment entrusted, including in particular the safety equipment and charging equipment provided by AVIS, in the same condition in which you received them. AVIS reserves the right to charge you for damage to the scooters and equipment caused by you or a third party during the rental period, or to charge for loss or theft, up to the market value of the scooter.
Likewise, if the charging equipment is lost or returned damaged, AVIS may charge you a fee.
