Plan your trip to Vienna
Vienna is a wonderful mix of imperial history, contemporary galleries and museums, and exciting dining and nightlife.Vienna was once the centre of the court of the Habsburg monarchy and this is reflected in the grandeur and lavishness of its buildings, such as Schloss Belvedere and Schloss Schönbrunn, and the Hofburg complex. But throughout the city contemporary architecture contrasts with the historic. Don’t miss the Museums Quartier (MQ), near the Imperial Palace, where modern museums have been built around former stables.
Known as one the most musical cities in the world, Vienna was the home of many great composers and musicians. Look out for concerts in one of Vienna's many churches or other classical music venues. To discover more about music and its creation, visit Vienna's Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments, and the Haus der Musik.
When it’s time for a pit stop you’ll find that Vienna is full of cosy coffee houses and Beisl (bistro pubs). Vienna is also known for its street food . A popular choice with the locals is the Naschmarkt, where you can choose from a range of local produce and dishes, and international specialties. Why not pick up a picnic to take to Prater? A large park with meadows, woodlands, amusement park and one of the city's icons, the Riesenrad Ferris wheel.
